Why research is ‘interesting’

I had come to not like the word interesting. Usually, it is dropped everywhere. I tell people what I do, and they say it is interesting. I tell others what my name is, and they say interesting. It seems like it has been the buzzword, and I do not know who to blame, but I will run with the media :)) . It is an easy target.

But I have been looking at my data and through the coding process ( I am using Microsoft word and color to code), I cannot help but see things that I sincerely call interesting. The relationships I see on paper that I would never have thought of, the gaps I see in the theory that my research could possibly add to, the thoughts that I develop as a result of looking at a simple transcription of an interview….and yes, I can rightfully say interesting.

I am at that level where as I read through and think through my study, I ask myself a reverse question. ” I wonder if it would hold true if…I wonder if this is deconstruction…I wonder… ”

Wondering is probably a version of interesting, because something that is interesting causes one to wonder. I think I am at a good place where the data is speaking and it is speaking a language I would never have heard and understood, had I not gone to the field in the first place.
